THE HOLLOW MOUNTAINS
(novel)
A darkly comic novel set in a small iron-mining town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The Hollow Mountains chronicles the life of Satu, the unorthodox matriarch of the Virtu family, from conception to death. As her life spans the greater part of the 20th century, Satu witnesses the rise and decline of her beloved birthplace, rails against the town’s deeply embedded social norms, and fights to raise her offspring in accordance with her unconventional convictions. Decades pass while the townspeople struggle to know what to make of the mysterious Satu, while her children and grandchildren endeavour to clear their own path.
