During the height of Soviet censorship, a patriotic secretarial student’s hunt for a forbidden album leads to both personal and political revolution as she rises through the ranks of 1960s Leningrad’s black-market music trade.

Leningrad, 1963. All music deemed anti-Soviet is outlawed under the USSR’s strict censorship policies. Defying this ban, music-loving dissidents risk everything to create and distribute bootleg “bone records” on the black market. Without raw vinyl to use as material, the industrious bootleggers print the illegal albums—everything from The Beatles to Miles Davis, Buddy Holly and Billie Holiday—onto used x-rays. Modeled after classic spy films, Bone Music follows Bestreva, a 19-year-old secretarial student who undergoes both personal and political revolution when she’s thrust headlong into this underground world.
